THE HODGEMOOR CHALLENGE TROPHY

Introduction   Calendar     Results of each round     Latest standings   Entry form

The Hodgemoor Challenge Trophy is a year-long challenge, starting in 2010 and continuing every year, designed to encourage riders of all talents to compete in a variety of disciplines in the local area. The top three riders will retain for a year one of the three Hodgemoor Challenge trophies (which have been donated by Susie and Marcus) on which to engrave their name and their horse’s name. The overall winner, class winners (to be decided) and top 3 places will get a smaller replica trophy to keep. Local companies are offering additional prizes for the top placed riders.

The disciplines will include all those with which we have been successful over the last few years, for a total of 12 to 20 events on weekends and the occasional midweek evening, including
• Show-jumping
• Dressage and dressage to music,
• Cross-country (including a mini totaliser in our cross country field),
• One-day eventing or combination of two disciplines,
• Mounted Games and Le Trec

The Challenge runs from January through September, with the awards being presented at our annual get-together in October each year. The calendar, scores and placings will be kept up to date on www.hodgemoor.org.uk/challenge

Scoring is as follows (subject to changes up to the first event):
1) Any amateur rider can join the Hodgemoor Riding Association and contest the Challenge.
2) You can enter the Challenge at any moment in the year and your previous scores, if properly reported by the event organiser, and subject to (3) below, will count.
3) 2 scores will be dropped out of the total (which might be up to 20 events), to help those that cannot turn out for every event,
4) Every event will have the same weighting in the scoring.
5) If there are classes, each class would carry the same amount of points; this means that a less experienced rider has the same chance of winning overall as an expert. Experienced riders will be asked not to enter a junior class, based on their own declarations and our knowledge of their performance in the recent past.
6) Any rider can compete on more than one horse; the horse and rider combination defines the accumulation of points.
7) A horse and rider combination that competes twice in an event, in different classes, scores the average of their scores.
8) Each rider can play one joker in the year. An email to us, in advance of the event, will suffice for the marks scored at that event to be doubled.
