Annual General Meeting of the Hodgemoor
Riding Association
on Thursday 1 March 2001 at 8 p.m.
at the Reading Room in Chalfont St. Giles village
centre
-
Report of the Chairman
-
Statement of accounts of the Association
-
Election of new Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and committee
members.
4) Discussion of current Forest Enterprise plan and
action to be taken. We will endeavour to bring further written information
on the issues, and a map of the proposed changes, to the meeting. If you
cannot come but would like the copies, please let Susie Bicknell on 01494
872447 know your address.
Among the issues are:
-
The Forest Enterprise says it cannot afford to maintain
the present number of trails, let alone any new ones. How can we help ensure
the paths do not decay into a string of marshes?
-
How can we raise financial contributions to this maintenance?
-
Is there merit in a one-off contribution from our Association
just to get the link between the new Bridle Path and the wood established?
-
Can a system of riding permits work as a way of raising
funds?
-
How can we improve our relations with other users of
the wood and other associations or bodies concerned?
5) Action Plan and nomination of volunteers
6) Membership drive: There has not been a meeting
for 2 years. Probably quite a number of local riders have changed in that
time. Please do encourage any rider you know to become a member. The Subscription
is £5 per year.
If you would like more information before the meeting
please call or e-mail:

Please also let Susie know if you plan to come to the
meeting or can support the association in any way.

and issues to prepare for the AGM

1 Maintenance of the Riding Trails
in the wood
2 Since the wood has become a "Site
of Special Scientific Interest", only "noggin" (a mixture of clay and gravel)
can be used to firm up trails. And noggin is much more expensive than hardcore.
3 What is a Site of Special Scientific
Interest? Does these reduce the rights of riders
4 Definitions and legal issues:
-
What is a Bridle Way?
-
What is a Riding Trail?
-
What is the legal status of each?
-
Who is obliged to maintain them?
-
Can volunteers help maintain them?
-
Do horse riders have any rights of access?
-
Can we get written status reports on these issues from
National associations?
-
What other associations locally should we open dialog
with?
-
Friends of Hodgemoor Wood?
-
Bucks County Council?
-
Chiltern District Council?
-
Who has purchased the fields between Chalfont St. Giles
and the wood?
-
Is creating a bridle path a condition of the sale?
3) Fund raising
We could ask for a much higher subscription to the
Association to contribute on a regular basis to maintenance, but then probably
hardly anyone would join, and those who did would resent the others who
still continued to ride in the woods without paying.
One solution is to get the riding trails official
bridle path status. The County Council would then be responsible for maintenance.
The Association would need very solid support from members in its attempt
to get bridle path status for other trails in the Wood.
