Committee Meeting and General Meeting of the Hodgemoor Riding Association
Thursday 28th June 2001 In the Reading Room in Chalfont St Giles
1. Apologies from Lisa, Joan and Judith Broadley
2. Susie and Marcus reported on the progress with Bucks CC and Forest Enterprise in getting funding for the paths in the wood and with the new bridleway. Incidentally, to add to the name “Brenda’s Path” suggested then, Marcus has also suggested “the Wickham Way” which has a nice ring to it. To be decided among the members.
3. It was agreed to help Forest Enterprise with a working party to clear the brush from the new bridlepath link through the East end of Hodgemoor. Action: We agreed on two rendezvous as follows
4. Fund Raising Events: Audrey Holbrook confirmed that she is now able to make firm plans for organising the sponsored ride for the children at her riding school, and that two dates in September will shortly be fixed. She has a target of £1500 to £2000 to raise for the HRA funds. Action: MB and SB prepare pamphlet for her to give to parents to explain what the funds are being raised for.
5. Fund Raising Events: it was agreed to hold a trial Penn Link Ride on Sunday 12th September starting at 10 .a.m. at Waylands. There would be two groups, one walking and trotting only. We hope to organise someone at the crossing of the A355 at the Magpie to increase safety, and a place to tether horses for lunch at about 12h30. Assuming an hour for lunch the slower group would be back by 15h30 or so, the faster group earlier. It can be made shorter for those who want to sample “the other side” without staying out so long.
6. Fund-raising events: it was agreed in principle that we should name a charity to raise money for at the same time as raising money for the Hodgemoor Riding Association.
7. Places to hold Bring and Buy sales were discussed. It was agreed that we should organise an HRA or horse corner of an existing car boot sale to reduce the organisation needed and to increase through flow. Heather will inform Marcus of a phone number for the organisers of the Holtspur (Beaconsfield) car boot sale. Action: MB and SB find out dates and organise horse or HRA corner
8. Signage: the meeting agreed there was a need for signs to tell cyclists and horse-riders what the rights and needs of the others are. There were several incidents of cyclists riding at speed past horses and in one case actually riding up the back of a horse and bumping into it. We heard that the Chiltern Society marks paths up and pays for them, possibly with a subsidy from the council. MB and SB discuss with Forest Enterprise, BHS and Chiltern Society what is best practice and how to get signs up.
9. Membership: we need a rep in each yard to solicit interest from other riders in each. We should also try to hold these meeting in each of the yards from time to time.
10. Could we get Norton and Newby to sponsor any events? Who has the best contact with Kay? Would they offer discounts to our members?
11. Use Chiltern Rider to advertise our events. Action: MB and SB to contact them with new of our events.
12. The next meeting would take place at one of the livery yards, to
be advised, on Thursday 28 June 2001 at 8 p.m.
